To your surprise, the library is no dark, drear place organized by some grumpy old crone. The librarians are a young girl and a unicorn, who smile at you brightly. The walls are papered in shades of cream, with large windows letting in sunlight.
"Welcome to the Strand's Library. Through that door is the Writings room, full of works by Strandies and friends. Through this door is a book recommendation list, and that door leads to the Gallery. Where do you wish to go?"
Recommended Books and Authors:
Listed by author, alphabetical by first name,
with titles and series of that author that we especially like.
Anne McCaffrey:
Pern: many books set in this wonderful world.
Some titles to look for:
The Talent Series: I'm not sure if it has a name, but the five books in this future of telepaths are:
Anything else she's written, including:
David Brin: Amazing sci-fi. His alien races are especially fascinating. They are called The Uplift Novels, and there are currently two trilogies:
Elizabeth Moon: Talk about yummy fantasy. I got The Deed of Paksenarrion, which is actually a compilation of a trilogy. I don't know the idividual titles. I was engrossed- I cried for hours at one point and couldn't put the book down until things got better.
Elizabeth Peters: great mysteries. This is her pen name, under it she writes the Amelia Peabody Mysteries about a Victorian archaeologist family, as well as some other mystery series. Under the name Barbara Michaels she has also written some good mysteries.
Lois Mcmaster Bujold: Really good sci-fi and fantasy. My older bro's favorite author, and that's saying something.
Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman: Together wrote fantasty.
Orson Scott Card: Wrote Ender's Game, which I loved. Several other books as well, but I haven't gotten to read them.
Piers Anthony:
Xanth: A fabulously punny world, I prefer
the earlier books. My favorites listed below:
Incarnations of Immortality: A great series, fantasy and satire with very influential beliefs.
Again, anything else he wrote.
Robert Asprin: wrote a yummy mind-candy fantasy series called the Myth books, begun with Another Fine Myth.
Robert Jordan: I only know of one series he's written, a huge-omongous epic fantasy, called The Wheel of Time. There are currently nine books, and still more to come.
Tamora Pierce: Writes yummy fantasy.
She has three series set in the same world,
in order of appearance:
She has also created another world, with currently two series:
Terry Pratchett: I'd just like to say that the Discworld books are some of the funniest I have ever read! I love them all!!!!
Some authors who I have no particular books to recommend for:
